Nova united U8s travelled to Kewford Eagles football tournament in Kinsgwinford, Dudley, West Midlands on Sunday 9th July for their last competition of the season.
Qualifying for the knockout stages after finishing second in their group, they stepped up their play with some attacking direct football that saw them cruise through the quarter and semi finals.
The final was a nail biting affair, drawing 1-1 against Olton Ravens after a period of golden goal extra time. Going into penalties, Nova goalkeeper Charley Gibbons saw his attempt hit the post, but he then returned to goalkeeping duties and kept out the next two penalties with diving saves. Nova scored their final two penalties to hand them the tournament victory.
The team, managed by Chris Latham and Matt Arnold, have had fantastic success during their end of season tournament circuit. They can now add this victory to their other success in the Market Drayton Tigers U8 event and have also been runners up in four4 further tournaments held at Prees and Albrighton and Shropshire FA competitions at Oswestry and Market Drayton.
Chris Latham said: “This is a fantastic victory – a fitting end to a busy season and fully deserved by the boys. They never gave up and their hard work and determination saw them through to the finish.”
Matt Arnold added: “They can be very proud of what they have achieved this year. We can all now enjoy the summer break, but look forward to next season and achieving more.”
